This week our Author Spolight is from J. Bree, the extremely talented Hannaford prep queen. J. Bree just finished up her first series with To the End: Hannaford Prep Year Four. If you haven’t started this series yet, you need to! A few spin off series are in the works and you won’t want to miss out on what happens! This is definitively an upcoming author that you will want to keep your eye on!

Onto the Questions! Thank you again J. Bree for answering our questions! We really appreciate it!

Q: What got you into witting? A: I am a voracious reader and daydreamer, there has never been a time in my life that I haven’t been tinkering with an idea.

Q: What is your favorite book/series of yours? A: This question is too hard to answer because I have HUNDREDS of favorite books lol.

Q: Why write high school bully romance stories vs others? A: I had the characters in my mind for a while and the ghost of an idea and then I read three books that helped me figure it all out: the Rich Boys of Burberry Prep series by CM Stunich, The Rebel of Raleigh High by Callie Hart, and Broken Wings by Tate James and Jaymin Eve.

Q: What is your favorite character from your books? (Or another book/series) A:  My favorite characters change depending on who I’m writing but if I HAD to choose I would say either Lips or Nate. They are very interesting to play with, I love the ride or die, no prisoners, cutthroat ways they both have.

Q: How did you come up with the characters from the Hannaford prep series? A: Characters always walk into my head and take it over. That’s just a part of my process, I can’t explain it lol.

Q: What is the most difficult thing about writing? About writing bully romance? A: Time is always the hardest thing. I have two under four so finding time is always hard. I have a lot of time to think thing through though so when I do finally get to sit at my laptop I can usually knock out a couple of chapters very quickly.

Q: Any recommendations for someone looking to get into writing? A: Read a lot and read critically. What do you like, what have the authors done well, what would you do differently. I ask this in every book I read.

Q: What is your favorite vacation spot? A: In my writing cave while my kids are out lol.

Q: What is your favorite food? A:  Melbourne, in another life I’d live there.

Q: What is your favorite food? A: Chocolate, I’m a total whore for chocolate.

Q:What is coming next from you? A: The Butcher of the Bay Part I, Illi and Odie’s backstory. I’m very excited to share it with my readers

Author Spotlight: Skylar Kingsley

This week we got to speak with author Skyler Kingsley. Thank you for answering our questions! We know that authors have busy lives and we appreciate being able to ask some questions and have a little fun! Skylar is currently working on book two of the Orion Protection Series. Skylar writes humorous characters along with some very steamy scenes. Her books include action, drama, thrills and some hot marines! We love that she used a real marine for the cover photo and took the pictures herself! Check out our book review here

Q: What got you into writing? A: I’ve been writing poetry since I was in the 4th grade. However, though my dream was to write a novel, I never prioritized writing in my life. After graduating from law school I felt as if my creativity had been stifled by analytical writing. Law school was the catalyst behind my writing because it helped me understand how much I needed to express my creative side. Once I committed to writing the Orion Protection Series, I couldn’t stop. I’d go to sleep dreaming up the next chapter and wake at 5 AM to type it out before my kids woke up.

Q: How do you keep your story straight/organized? A: I type notes on the side and re-read what I wrote. I’ve tried a more detailed outline, but an informal organization works best for me.

Q: What is your favorite character from your book? A: At the moment I’m in love with Mia, the heroine in Stripped: Book 2 in the Orion Protection Series. However, Logan will always have the biggest piece of my heart. I gave him several of my husband’s attributes. I’ll let you guess which ones.

Q: What is the most difficult thing about writing? A: The most difficult aspect of writing is time management. I work a job, have three young girls, coach soccer, skate on the Okinawa Roller Derby Team and am working on my next novel. It’s difficult some days and I’m forced to be creative about my time.

Q: Any recommendations for someone looking into writing? A: Sit down and start. Write a little every day. Start with 500 words a day and work your way up to bigger daily word counts. The key is to write a little every day. Before you know it, you’ll have the first draft. Also, find yourself a supportive writing community. Cheer each other on and celebrate accomplishments together.

Q: What is your favorite writing spot? A: I love to write next to a window when it’s raining. I live in Okinawa, Japan and we get quite a bit of rain here. Truthfully, if my kids are distracted, I’ve been known to sit on the kitchen floor to avoid being seen. I type as quickly as possible until they find me. I will literally write anywhere I can.

Q: What is your favorite vacation spot? A: I love anything with mountains and lakes. I love Lake Tahoe (I’m from the Tahoe/Reno area) and I adore Colorado.

Q: What is your favorite food? A: I love breakfast burritos. I eat them for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Q: What is your favorite book/series? A: I fell in love with the “Song of the Lioness” series by Tamora Pierce as a kid. Her books helped me realize how beautiful it is to create a world in the mind of another.

Q: What is coming next from you? A: I am currently working on Stripped: Book 2 in the Orion Protection Series. I use real Marines on my covers and do the photoshoots myself, so I’m putting that altogether for the readers. It’s a big project but it’s going to blow you away- I promise.

Author Spotlight: K. Webster

Author Spotlight: K. Webster

We had the pleasure of asking K. Webster some questions for our Author Spotlight! If you don’t know, K. Webster is my queen of Taboo writing and writes some amazing taboo, standalone books and even some great series! These books are usually darker and definitely on the taboo side.

On too the questions!

Q: What got you into writing? A: I always loved reading and wanted to write a book, but felt intimidated by the process. It wasn’t until I went to a book signing for a few favorite authors and went with a friend that I realized maybe this wasn’t such a pipe dream after all.  My friend (who wasn’t even close to being as big of a book nerd as I am) told me she was self-publishing a book. I was so blown away and thought, “If she can do it, I most definitely can.” I came back home, incredibly inspired, and ten days later I had my first book! Been tapping away ever since.

Q: What is your favorite book/series of yours? A: I think I’d have to say the War & Peace series. I loved delving into the dark, psychological elements of that series!

Q: Why write taboo stories vs others? A: I love those awkward, face-burning moments when I read taboo stories…so, naturally, I like to make my readers feel just as awkward as me.

Q:What is your favorite character from your books? A: Benny from Pretty Stolen Dolls.  He’s so multi-dimensional and psychotic and broken.  I just love him.

Q:What is the most difficult thing about writing? About writing taboo? A: I think the most difficult aspect is swallowing the pill that not everyone is going to like it, and some may even hate it passionately.  You have to be ready to accept negativity about what you write. It’s something I’ve had to learn along the way…to let those things roll off me and keep on moving forward.

Q:Any recommendations for someone looking to get into writing or transverse into the taboo subjects? A: I think if they’re looking to write taboo, they should read taboo.  I think reading always helps shape and mold us as authors. Reading is one of my biggest tools.  It helps me learn.

What is your favorite writing spot? A: My favorite writing spot is my recliner and I will NOT write anywhere but there.

What is your favorite vacation spot? A: My favorite vacation spot is the beach (Gulf Shores, Alabama) because it’s so peaceful and relaxing and warm.

What is your favorite food? A: My favorite food is probably meatloaf and I’m obsessed with coffee.

What is coming next from you? A: As far as what’s next….ALLLLL the things! I have so many things coming up! In the nearer future, I have The Free (a taboo story for those familiar with The Wild world) and Hood River Rat (a bully romance) which will be available in the Bully Me anthology.  Then, not long after that, I have Cocksure Ace which is a funny and sexy story about a cocky pilot and a sassy heroine which is an enemies-to-lovers romance.

Thank you again, K. Webster for answering our questions and helping us dive into the realm of dark romances and taboo series! Benny was definitely a surprise for us and we hope everyone enjoys his craziness as much as (Jacq) did! Let us know what you think below!

A breif recap of some of my favorite books:

The Glue

This book is MMF. The starting of this book will get you hot and bothered. Is it a MM romance? Is it a cheating romance? Is it a professor-teacher romance? It is alllll of the above! The scene in the in the professors office with our MC, OMG sooo hot! And then when the twist happens. NO Spoilers here…yet. 😉

Vlad

Well if you are looking for a mafia romance this series is for you. All books are standalone but should be read in order to understand the story. You think you have it easy? Try leaving with a family that literally has a game where your life is your value. Your lively hood is based off how well you can do in this came and if you win your own bounty, freedom? YES! Just yes, I loved this series. Heartbeat, drama, ugly cry!

Whipsers

This standalone is a trick! Right off the bat, you don’t know who you are dealing with, this book deals with some mental heath issues. Without any spoilers…this book has MANY characters that you will love and hate and then think, WTF just happened! The ending I am still trying to wrap my head around, but it was worth it. Yup, add to your TBR!

Coach Long

So here comes a taboo story. Girl is 18, coach is..well coach lol. She doesn’t mean to seduce him, she really wants to just be a student and get over with the year. This short read is perfect for the teacher-student romance. The shower scene after track practice, just go read that. I say just a lot. JUST DO IT! Taboo, ready, amazing. YES!

Pretty Stolen Dolls

You can find my review of Pretty Stolen Dolls here. This series is so dark romance and the perfect serial killer, some Stockholm syndrome, taboo, soo dark romance. The whole series just makes you think and wonder what is going to happen next!

Pretty Stolen Dolls-K Webster

Blurb

This is a Dark title with adult themes

From Bestselling Authors Ker Dukey & K Webster comes,
Pretty Stolen Dolls.

Benny loves his pretty little dolls.
As long as they do exactly as they’re told.
He keeps them perfect by brushing their hair
and gives them pretty dresses to wear.
He likes to toy with them late at night.
One so timid but the other likes to fight.
When his favorite doll runs away…
despite the other doll promising to stay,
his heart becomes broken and he can’t help but cry.
He wants her back home or his pretty little doll must die.

Have you ever had to make a decision that haunts you every single day for the rest of your life…the life you stole back?
I have.
I ran for my survival, rocks and twigs cutting into the soles of my feet, my lungs burning and screaming for rest, every muscle tensed and fighting along with me for existence.
I left her.
I ran, ran, ran—from Benny and his lone, pretty little doll—until I couldn’t remember where to find them again.
I’m sorry.

Pretty Stolen Dolls by K. Webster & Ker Dukey, holy yes! This book is a dark romance, as in dark, dark. Not for the faint of heart and may cause some triggers for people. Lots of mystery and suspense in this book.Very creepy because you get some POV’s that you don’t know who they are of but you have a good guess. BUT you’ll be wrong! This is not a standalone and a series. Yay for more psychological thrillers! I loved this book/series. K. Webster knows how to write the dark scenes and taboo series.

A serial killer, a detective, a lost sister, this book is just dark. Jade and Macy Phillips aren’t like most teens. Nope, they grow up in cells, taken by a man named Benjamin, “Benny”. Benny loves to dress up his dolls. He loves to make them pretty. He has taken them while they are at a fair looking at dolls. Their father warned them of the monsters of the world, maybe they should have paid attention better. Little do they know the man who is selling the dolls is going to take them away from everything. K. Webster wrote very well in-depth scenes that painted a pretty picture for the readers.

Jade escapes but can’t get her sister out at the same time. How heartbreaking would it be to have to leave your sister in hopes that you will return to save her? The book jumps to 8 years later and Jade is a detective just trying to find a lead on her sister and their case. Jade has a killer (not stabby, stabby) personality that throws her attitude towards anyone and everyone. Not the meek type here ladies! She is obsessed with finding her sister and looking for fairs where she can find Benny and his dolls again. Amazing character development and emotions from the characters and story-line.

Jade and Dillion, her partner (in more than one way) are a duo-dynamic. Their storyline is so hot and has so much drama/thrills. Dillion comes off at a jerk at first but soon worms his way into Jade. She opens up to him, in more than one way, and he starts to believe her more and more. Dillion is obviously the overbearing partner *cough* boyfriend material*cough*. As the book progresses it looks like Jade is spiraling because of the new gory killings that are happening and she is positive that Benny is behind them and is out to get her back into his collection. With no one believing her, it looks like she will dive off the deep end. The first book does end in a cliffhanger. But no cliffhanger hangovers for you!

Ahh this book was so dark and twisted! I loved it. If you need a good dark romance with some gore, violence, bad language then this is the book for you. The series is complete and is all on Kindle Unlimited. Thanks K. Webster! Lovvved all your work!
