Book Review: Secret Smiles (Love in Sienna Series Book 1)

A rock star with demons. A manager with a secret past. Can they overcome it all and find love?

After relentless bullying throughout her childhood, Tia Marie Daggen dropped out of high school and homeschooled herself, determined to create a better life. Now she is one of the best band managers in the music industry. She starts out on her own when the company she works for screws her over.

Her first client? Her old high school crush, Mikey Ecosta. When she lets down her guard and lets him in, things don’t go as planned. When he asks for one more chance, can Tia let go of the past and trust him with her heart?

Cocky, self-assured rocker Mikey Ecosta knows his effect on women. He flashes a sexy smile and they’re clamoring for his attention. When he meets his new manager, Tia, sparks fly, but she’s determined to keep him at arm’s length. Just when he finally convinces her to let him in, a lie rips them apart. When the truth is revealed, can he win back the one woman who can bring him to his knees, or has he lost her forever?

**TRIGGER WARNING** This book discusses suicide and attempted suicide. In-depth details are not given, but it is spoken about at length. It also talks about mental health and drug addiction. If you feel like these subjects would be hard for you to read about, please avoid.

Secret Smiles by Laura John is the first book in Love in Seinna Series. This was an amazing book. Rock star romance, sex, heart ache – it is an emotional roller-coaster on how miscommunication can turn your whole world upside down.

Tia is bullied as a kid. But she doesn’t let that stop her, she takes things into her own hands and becomes a manager for a rock star group. She is heartbroken to find out that the lead singer was lost due to suicide. In comes Mikey a face from the past soon to be her future.

Love hits you hard and fast here – Tia and Mikey both feel the pull to each other but Tia doesn’t want to mess anything up being Mikey’s manager. In the end the heart wins when they finally give into the passion. This only lasts so long – communication is key to any relationship – but if you don’t talk to each other things will spiral – fast.

One thing leads to another and Mikey breaks things off with Tia. I found this hard to read, but it is so true on how relationships in the real world work, people get hurt emotionally and let that anger make their decisions for them rather than facing it head on.

Tia finds herself in a situation – she is pregnant – but Mikey won’t talk to her and she doesn’t know why. All the while Mikey is letting his anger take him down a dark path. If only they he would talk to Tia. This leads to Mikey falling deeper and deeper into depression until he feels like it isn’t worth it anymore – and attempts to take his own life.

I loved how Laura tackled writing about suicide. Depression is a hard issue for people to talk about. It is thought of as a weakness to ask for help – when in reality there is nothing ever wrong with saying you can’t do it by yourself. That you need the support of your family and friends to get you through the darkness.

I highly recommend this book! It is a quick read filled with tons of emotion to keep you turning until the very last page. I am excited for what comes next.

Infamous-Sariah Skye

A breakup is never easy.A breakup when you’re famous? The worst. I’m Evan Michaels, and I’ve been a major recording artist for years. I have plenty of money, sell out tours, and won major awards for my music. You’d think that my life would be pretty amazing, wouldn’t you?Not so much. It’s true that money can’t buy happiness because now I’m alone and no mansion, fancy cars, designer clothes, or cash can make that better.

I only have my playboy manager, Christian, and my silent, over-protective bodyguard, Isaiah by my side. Oh, and about three-million of my closest “friends” on social media who aren’t really friends, but a gorgeous man from Michigan named Jordan Nashton clearly is.

He’s a long-time follower of mine, and his words and messages of comfort offer me hope for love, friendship, and family for the first time in a long while. When we meet sparks fly almost instantly despite the fact I make him nervous with my big mouth and big career.

And, things might be perfect if not for Christian’s secrets and all the scandals that follow me around every corner I turn. But, Jordan is a humble English teacher with simple needs, and nothing about my life is simple. How can he love me when no one else could? Maybe it’s not possible for anyone to love someone like me who’s bruised, broken, and infamous.(Trigger and author warning…please see ebook description or “Look inside” function for more information)

Infamous by Sariah Skye is a must read for those rockstar romances who also like a bit of reverse harem and M/M scenes. This book has so much in it! The drama of a female rockstar, the nerdy, sexy teacher, and the alpha manager.

I loved this book! Evan Michaels is our main lady who just got out of a bad breakup from domestic abuse and finds her self alone amongst all her friends and fans. She is sexy, fierce, and vulnerable. She has her uber sexy manager Christian to keep her bed occupied on her tour bus, but it’s not enough. She doesn’t want to just be an easy lay, she wants more. She wants All The Feels! And So, in steps our sexy, nerdy teacher, Jordan.

Jordan can relate to Evan because of his sisters death from an abusive boyfriend. He is protective and reaches out to her on social media just giving her his support. Little does he know, Evan actually responds to him and actually wants to meet him. Jordan is a shy, debt-ridden teacher who needs a side job at a coffee shop just to get by. I can sure relate to Jordan with college debt, oofftah.

Ah when these two meet it’s so cute. She just walks right into that coffee job and blows the pants off of Jordan. Evan and Jordan hit it off and the steamy scenes are worth the wait. This first book is a slow-medium burn but it gets there!

Then we have Christian who is Bi and doesn’t care who he lets in his bed. But what he really wants is to call Evan his own. Lots of missed opportunities in this book because people don’t communicate their feels. He doesn’t know how she really feels and she doesn’t know how he really feels. It doesn’t help that. Christian is just a player and super flirt. He even flirts with Jordan to rile him up and Jordan’s male co-worker, in comes the M/M.

This book was well written, lots of emotions, character development and a storyline that will keep you entertained. A lot of he’s not good enough for her and she just wants to be normal. The ending is very emotional because you just want everything to work out! The Feels! Evan and Jordan’s story ends on a cliffhanger but don’t you fret, book 2 and 3 are out! And ho boy, the steamy scenes in book 2, yass please! AHH I just loved this book!

Book Review: Carnage: The Story of Us

Book Review: Carnage: The Story of Us
The Story of Us: Carnage-Lesley Jones

A boy who dreamed about rock and roll.

A girl who dreamed about a boy.

A story about obsessive love, betrayal, loss and learning.

‘I was just eleven years old, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt I was staring into the eyes of the boy I was going to love forever.’

No matter how many lies are told, no matter how many people conspire to keep us apart, despite the fame and the distance, it will only ever be him.

This is NOT, your typical love story, but this is OUR story. The Story Of Us

The Story of Carnage: Books 1-5 by Lesley Jones is in a boxset and needs to be read all together. Don’t break up the books, you’ll just be upset with yourself. This book right here. This is one of those books that you compare all other ugly cries to. When getting a recommendation from a friend for a book and they say it might be sad or an ugly cry, make sure to ask, “Is it Carnage bad?” Because if it is, you will know that it’s amazing, BUT your heart will be obliterated!

One thing you need to remember about this book is that it isn’t written in the current time era. This is written where the characters live in the United Kingdom and a different era, the 80’s I believe. There are no cell phones, iPads, Instagram, Facebook. Trying to reach out to someone was through letters and phone calls on landlines. There was no “instant” DM’s to share your feelings with. If you missed a phone call or never received a letter, that’s it, no moving forward to the boardwalk. This is also a time when snorting coke is just something people did. It wasn’t taboo or wrong. People would take bumps just to get that little high. I feel like a lot of the readers forgot about this and gave some bad reviews over it. Even if drugs were in this book, it is how the author portrayed the characters and there is nothing wrong with that, it was just a natural part of their lives.

Now, back to the story! Georgia Ray. Ah, Georgia. Meeting your soul mate when you are so young just means you are lucky, but will probably have some ups and downs. “I love you Georgia Ray, show us your tits.” I think this is my favorite line out of the whole book, but also the saddest, YOU KNOW WHY!

This is a story about betrayal, miscommunication, heartbreak, and second chances. The miscommunication comes when our leading rockstar betrays our leading lady. Yeah, you felt the pain in your chest for this one. Then the hits just keep coming. Always never letting the other one speak and running away instead of getting the full story. Georgia grows up without her soul mate because of the miscommunication, but therein lies the drama.

When Georgia Ray and Sean get back together finally, it isn’t without heartbreak. Georgia Ray has found love again and has to let Cam go. But to only find that her mom betrayed her by trying to protect her, again miscommunication. I’m glad that they found themselves again but then what happens with Cam? We think Georgia Ray and Cam’s story is over, but one night in the club and their attraction is blown back, but Georgia knows she can’t be with him. She will forever and always love Sean.

You think this story is about a HEA? GUESS AGAIN, ladies! After ten blissful years, you think everything is coming out great. We have a happy, married couple who have decided to settle down and have a family. But one wintery day with some slick roads and everything goes to shit. I was so not expecting this. I literally gasped out loud when I read the ending of book 1. WHO DOES THIS! Who writes this type of heartache? I cried, you know I did. I had to stop and breathe. Read through the tears because Lesley Jones wrote something I wasn’t prepared for. We are both moms. Losing your child and husband in the same accident would make me want to never wake up also. I’m glad this boxset is out because if that was a cliffhanger, I would have had the WORST book cliffhanger and would have been pissed! I feel for those that had to wait for the next book to come along.

AHHH! Such a good book though. I love rock star romances. They just have a different vibe than other books. The rest of the boxset was still heartbreaking, but we see the HEA as well as other stories from different characters. Out HEA isn’t without heartbreak though, but I really liked the direction the storyline went and how everything ended. It definitely wasn’t a book that I could put down. Pretty sure I stayed up way past my bedtime each night just to finish it. GO READ IT! Right Meow!

I would consider this a slow-medium burn because the story grows with the characters.
