Book Review: The Hunter

Book Review: The Hunter
LJ Shen

Boston’s debauched elite is going up in flames, and it’s the Fitzpatrick family that set it on fire.

I didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?
It was just one of those unexplainable things.
Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.
It just happened.
Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.
The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.
Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…

I didn’t want this gig, okay?
But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.
I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.
Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?
It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.
No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.
Even at the cost of losing everything I have.
Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

HOLY S*IT! LJ SHEN, yup I need to capitalize this who book The Hunter! I love that we get to see little snide-bits of Knight and Luna and even Vaughn. Hunter is the playboy billionaire that you all know about that just can’t keep his d*ck in his pants. Then comes along little miss archer, Sailor, seriously, I love that name btw. She is all about the game, and not a booty-type game. She is serious about making it to the Olympics in archery and won’t let anyone get in her way, that is, until she has to babysit hot, stud, sexy-on-a-stick, Hunter. I like that Hunter is like the girl in a relationship. He doesn’t want to get his hands dirty and then we have Sailor who just likes to play in the mud. These two are polar opposites but Hunter is out stalking his prey and will have Sailor. Hearts will be broken, feels will be made, this book will keep you awake all night and forget that you actually have to work in the morning. YUP!!

Book Review: The Butcher of the Bay

Book Review: The Butcher of the Bay

My life was simple: I kill for money and I’m the best in the Bay at my job.

That was enough for me until I met the woman of my dreams, only to deliver her to hell itself for a pretty penny.

Nothing will stop me from getting her back and when I do… there isn’t a man in the Bay that’s safe from my vengeance.

They’ll pay in blood for their crimes.

Just going to say this…you need the Butcher in your life. Illie’s love for Odie is 1000% over the moon right off the bat. I need a man like this in my life. So what if he might have a hidden basement where he tortures people to death….he puts Odie first and will go to the end of the earth for her.

One thing, this book won’t be for everyone. Even if you did fall in love with Lips and her harem in the Hannaford Prep series, The Butcher has many triggers, violence, unconsentual sexual encounters, so like I said, it’s not going to be everyones cup of tea. And these scenes are detailed. That is why I love J. Bree, she creates whole worlds for us to read and live through. You really get to see what makes Illie tick in this book and it brings to light how and why he acted in JDO. I LOVED that Lips makes multiple appearances in this book! She is so little and you get a feeling of how she survive and became the assassin she is in JDO!

After you get over that, this book was just about drama, action, SO MUCH ACTION, and a love story that we all wanted to learn how it grew. I love Odie and Illie! I wasn’t expecting Odie to be the way she was written because I already had a certain idea in my head of how she was in JDO. BUT it’s great. She is her own person and she is strong willed. She gets beaten and broken but never gives up. I don’t know if I could be that strong. This book doesn’t have that many steamy scenes but I think book 2 will have more. This one is the tease before the big show!

Book Review: Power of Five

Four elite fae warriors. One mortal female. A magical bond they can’t allow—or resist.

Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera’s life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master’s advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out… Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera’s barn.

River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother’s loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to… a female. A mortal female.

Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing—a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone… especially for Lera herself.

Power of Five by Alex Lidell is fantasy imagined. With a witty mortal followed by 4 fierce and handsome fae. That will stop at nothing to protect their mortal, even from themselves – or so they think. This is book 1 of 7 in the Power of Five series.

Lera lives at the edge of the forest but is a slave to a horrid human Zake. They live at the edge because it has been foretold that the fae will one day take a human away for rich and glory, or course master Zake thinks this will be him. Only it is not him that the fae they are here for, it is is Leralynn.

The fae – River, Tye, Cole & Shade are part of a quint – a team of fae that pulled together by magic to fight against Mors. But they are missing a member, they lost someone to the evil of Mors and have been waiting for the pull to find their fifth. When the pull comes they follow it to a mortal, this shouldn’t be possible. Lera is taken from her home who doesn’t know who or what to trust but in herself and her instincts. Who wouldn’t leave their life of slavery when 4 sexy fae show up to take you away? The quint needs to correct this mistake that then magic has made and take Lera with them to sever the bond.

I really enjoyed the character build in this book. You get to know each of the characters and their personality’s and how they interact with each other. From Coles dark and hard side to Tye’s playful nature. River’s assertiveness and Shades protectiveness.

This book is a reverse harem with a slow to medium burn. While I say slow don’t let that persuade you from this book. The steamy scenes won’t let you down, (the following books in this series are a hot burn). Lera doesn’t let the fact that the quint are fae deter her from following her instincts to help bring everyone together and make a stronger quint.

Book Review: Hate

Book Review: Hate
Hate-Tate James

“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.”

Those words changed my life, and not for the better.

They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up.

After being charged with a string of offences–and made an example of by my political minded father–I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind.

Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid out future. Someone is going to catch the full force of my hate. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.

Archer D’Ath and his boys messed with the wrong chick and they’re about to learn just how cold Madison Kate’s hate can run.

HATE is a full length mature college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book one of four in the series.

OMG! JUST OMG! I love Tate James, little bit of a lady crush, she knows it. This book was everything. The silent reverse harem that just sneaks up on you! Madison Kate, what a mouth full of a name, you know she is trouble. After her mother dies on Halloween, the night just isn’t the same for her. Thus, MK finds herself at a MMA underground fight and all hell breaks loose when a shot fires and a girl ends up being killed. Was the bullet for MK though? She looked just like her. I feel bad for MK, there is so much mystery in this book and it’s killing me! Now we have the guys, Kody, Steele, and Archer. They all have their successful lives after the night that changed everything for MK and her reputation is ruined. AND they live with her now! HA! I would be epically pissed off as well. This book has a lot of steam, RH action, and lots of WHYS! Of course we get the cliffhanger and it was soooo good. I almost didn’t want to read this because I knew it would be. I just can’t! Loved it, read it and you will know why!

Book Review: Uppercut Princess

Book Review: Uppercut Princess

Vengeance is NOT my middle name.

It’s in my blood.

It’s tattooed on my skin.

It’s with me 24/7. The thing that drives me.

It’s also what brings me to Rawley Heights. No one would willingly come here otherwise. But me? I don’t have a choice.

Here, everyone fears the Heights Crew. They’re not just some small-town gang, they’re the real deal. Crime. Sex. Murder. Angry, self-obsessed dudes with bad attitudes.

And they’re exactly who I need to get my vengeance from.

I have my work cut out for me, but don’t worry, they have no idea who they’re dealing with.

I’m counting on it.

Uppercut Princess is a dark high school enemies to lovers RH with bully themes.

This book has Fire! Kyla is our MC who is out for revenge. She has lost those closest to her and needs to devour those who took them from her. She has enrolled herself into the Heights with one goal, revenge. The only way she can do this is by getting “in” with the Heights Crew. She needs to impress Johnny, AKA Rocket, but along the way finds Oscar and Brawler….maybe Mag, still undecided about him. After proving herself Rocket falls for Kyla but doesn’t think he needs to keep his parts in his pants because, Kyla will be his in the end…so it doesn’t matter. So if you don’t like cheating, be warned. I LOVED this RH book. It was a little slow burn at the beginning but it picks up hot. The workout scenes with Brawler, woohoo! This book ends with a cliffhanger after Kyla is chosen to fight…oeeewee that ending!

Book Review: Liar (Madison Kate Book 2)

Book Review: Liar (Madison Kate Book 2)
Liar: Madison Kate Book 2

“Liar, liar, pants on fire.”

The words scrawled on the back of my newest stalker mail makes my blood run cold. I have no idea if it’s the lie I know, or one that I don’t.

Since arriving back into Shadow Grove, I’ve been stalked, tormented, chased and almost killed. I’ve been lied to, repeatedly, by people I was growing to trust.

That word haunts me. Someone knows more about my life than I do. Someone is taunting me with answers and teasing me with secrets. Am I desperate enough to fall for more deception?

Archer and his boys made a huge mistake when they lied to me. They thought they could play me but they’re about to learn that they’ve met their match.

No one stabs Madison Kate and gets away with it.

LIAR is a full length (448 pages, 102,978 words) college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book TWO of FOUR in the series.

Liar by Tate James! Well you know that there is going to be mystery, drama, and action. This book has everything! It will keep you on your toes while you try to decide for yourself if Kody, Steel, and Archy are good enough to earn MK’s trust back. This book focused at lot more on Steel, who I love btw. The chemistry between Steel and MK is off the charts. Kody is so sweet and has a dark side to him as well. The steam! Right when two of the three boys gets on MK’s good side, NOPE! Blinded by the light…you know the song. Poor MK! She just can’t help but have a trusting heart. You can’t help but just binge this book! Archy is still a moody a**hole who can’t help but toe the line between lust and hate. MK, her pour heart, I just want to reach in and help it pump in the right direction! I’m still out on the verdict that her BFF has something to do with her stalker. MK is still being stalked, the barbies are creepy, there is still a killer out trying to hurt MK, and the three guys just don’t know how to open up. The secrets get even bigger. AH, cliffhanger because Tate James loves to tease us!! Seriously! That ending…..I don’t eve what to say it, but the third book is going to be a trip!

Book Review: The Lies We Tell

Book Review: The Lies We Tell

The Lies We Tell

Starting over after my father’s sudden death was bad enough, but the four boys who rule Alstone College, my new university, are determined to make my life even more difficult. One in particular. Caiden Cavendish.
My nightmare. My shadow. My stepbrother.

My dad’s death was an accident… Lie.
My life isn’t in danger… Lie.
The Four won’t bring mayhem to my life… Lie.
I don’t want Caiden Cavendish… Lie.

Eeny, meeny, miny, mo.
The Four are coming for you, Snow.

Note: This book is not a standalone, and may contain triggers for some readers.

This bully romance is a hit! The Lies We Tell by Becca Steele has a lot of stepbrother vibe to it also but doesnt dive too deep into the taboo relationship. We have Winter and Cade who are just at each other’s throats. Cade just doesnt want anything to do with Winter….except her body. He is very hot and cold. One minute pushing her up against a car door and the next yelling at her to not touch him. I feel for Winter. She doesn’t know what to do because she doesn’t want him, but he keeps giving her mixed signals. And on TOP of it, she is dealing with her father’s death and trying to prove her bio mom, who hasn’t been any part of her life until now, killed him. The FOUR, Cade, Weston, Cass, and Z are not to be messed with. While Weston is acting like the sweet stepbrother, I am hoping something between him and Kinslee eventually pan out. I need their story! And then we end on a cliffhanger! Right after our two mains get it going on, NOPE. Learn to trust your girl! Loved this book, excited for the second! This book is definitely a fast burn, loved it!

Author Spotlight: K.A. Knight

Ho boy did this week go by! Extremely happy that it is Friday. We had the pleasure of interviewing K.A. Knight a fantastic RH writer with breathtaking worlds and epic characters. I love all of her characters and their different personalities. Currently I am working my way through Their Champion series and can find my review of The Wasteland here. And onto the good stuff.

1. What got you into writing? A: I first started writing when my nana got sick and I was looking after her. It became an escape for me, I had always enjoyed curating stories and poems but starting a book was a big thing for even for me. But I had a lot of emotions that I couldn’t get out any other way and I poured them down onto the paper. A strong untouchable woman (Worth) but damaged and haunted took over my mind. She was everything I needed to be at that time, strong and kick-ass, unrelenting and unbending. Once I finished the book, I sat back and realised it wasn’t enough. I had other voices (muses) in my head wanting to be let out. It took over my life, I would hide in the toilet at work to write and eventually when I become a full-time author I realised this wasn’t just a hobby or a job. This was who I was now.

2.What is your favorite book/series of yours? A: My favourite is always Their Champion Series. Maybe it’s because it was one of the first or that Worth just always holds a special place in my heart. She was was with me at the beginning of this journey and I don’t think I will ever be able to let her or the story go.

3. What got you into writing reverse harem books? A: Honestly, I don’t really remember. I was always a big reader and I stumbled upon RH by mistake and once I did I could never look back. I became obsessed with the idea of a woman getting to love more than one man and the complexities and issues that would surround such a relationship.

4. What is your favorite character from your books? (Or another book/series) A: Worth OFC, but also Dawn (Her Monsters Series) She has a unique look on the world, she has this mixture of fierce strength and pure softness. She wants to save everyone but she is willing to spill some blood to do it. She’s outspoken and strong and yet willing to love and trust. I think we could all do with a bit of her strength in our lives.

5. How did you come up with the characters from the series? A: Usually, a character will speak to me first, before any plot points or scenes I see them. The characters, sometimes it’s a song or a movie, or real life that inspires me and they take root until I flesh them out. I have to know what makes them tick, what do they love? What do they hate? What makes them cry and what makes them fight. My FMC’s always tend to be strong and I love playing with the different strength’s a person can have. Once I know what their personalities are like, I figure out how I want them to look, usually spending hours scouring the internet until I find the right model/picture.

6. What is the most difficult thing about writing? About writing reverse harem? A: One of the most difficult things about writing is the nerves. Even now after…gosh I don’t even remember how many books I still get the nerves. Maybe even more so than when I first started. I worry that I’ve gone too far, that I’ve not gone far enough, that I will let fans down. That this will be the book that everyone thinks is rubbish. It can be debilitating sometimes and block my writing. I don’t think the nerves will ever go away tbh.

The hardest thing about writing reverse harem is keeping track of everyone (ha), especially during group sex scenes. Which person is where, wait is that enough hands…where is everyone’s penis? Honestly, it’s hilarious but super hard to navigate.

7. Where do you get your inspiration to write? A: A lot is from songs or movies. I am a junkie for both, and sometimes it just hits me. Like when you get goosebumps and can’t get that scene out of your head? That burrows into my mind as I pick it apart and wonder if I could do that. Sometimes it’s dreams, I wake up in the middle of the night with vivid storylines and characters!

8. Any recommendations for someone looking to get into writing? A: A big one would be to make friends, don’t be scared to approach people, chances are they are going through the same or already have. My support base is what keeps me going when it gets tough, and it does, without these people, I would have given up a long time ago. Also, always use an editor (ha)

9. What is your favorite writing spot? A: I have a few but the one I always find myself in is the corner of my sofa, curled up with my laptop on my knee and earplugs in watching the world pass through my giant windows. Another is in my office surrounded by books!

10. What is your favorite vacation spot? A: I love Dubai, I even mention it in one of my books, it’s a place I never expected to go or love but I did. I go at least once a year now, the culture and people made me fall in love with it.I love Dubai, I even mention it in one of my books, it’s a place I never expected to go or love but I did. I go at least once a year now, the culture and people made me fall in love with it.

11. What is your favorite food? A: Burgers and ice cream. I’m a big burger girl, take me to a fancy restaurant? I’ll get the burger

12. What is coming next from you? A: A Lot! I have a tendency to never relax, always working on at least four projects. My most recent being Den of Vipers (A Mafia RH Stand-Alone). Right now I’m working on Worth’s final book, trying to do her justice, as well as the fourth book in my monster spin-off series. I also have a secret WIP that I am super excited to share, it’s a bit of fun and definitely steamy. After these…well let’s just say I have a long list. I won’t be stopping any time soon!

Book Review: See No Evil-The Society Book 1

Book Review: See No Evil-The Society Book 1

They thought they could get away with it, but they are sorely mistaken.

They have been judged. They have been sentenced. All that remains is their execution.

No one goes unpunished. We’ll make sure of it.

We are The Society and all who dare cross us will find their miserable end by our hand.

Don’t be fooled. This is not their story.

It’s ours.

As long as I can remember, I’ve played by the rules.

On and off the football field, I’ve done everything that has been expected of me.

Until that fatal night.

Now my life and the lives of my best friends hang in the balance, hung there by a sadistic sinister shadow forcing us to do their will.

And it’s just my damn luck that I’m the first to be put on their butcher’s block.

I must prove my worth by eradicating a certain pebble in their shoe.

The order is simple.

To save ourselves, I must ruin another—a life for a life.

Meaning Stone Bennett’s life is about to be forfeited in exchange for my own.

The poor girl never stood a chance.

He’s all American perfection.

I’m the poster child for this country’s rejects.

He’s old Asheville money and privilege.

I’m the Southie eyesore people stay clear from.

He’s caviar dreams and champagne wishes.

I’m the trailer trash his momma probably warned him about.

I doubt it can get any further away from the elitist’s social spectrum than the two of us.

So why the hell is Finn Walker, Richfield’s football god, suddenly all in my face wanting my attention?

Nothing good can come from this.

I can feel it.

*The Society is an Enemies to Lovers, New Adult College Romance.

*Each book can be read as a standalone. However all four books in this series have an entwined subplot, that will only be resolved in the final book.

*Recommended 18+ due to mature language and situations.

See No Evil by Ivy Fox: You won’t want to put this book down. Just read it straight through, forget about food, work, everything! So much mystery. We found out through little tidbits that we wouldn’t get the whole story until after book 4, so it’s a little frustrating because there is SO MUCH MYSTERY!

Our main four guys are Lincoln, Colt, Easton and Finn, and we find out at the beginning that they have a secrete that might just tare them apart because that secrete, someone knows about. To keep their secrete hidden they must complete a task, and this time it is Finn’s turn. He must befriend Stone and then ruin her. Why? Who knows, Stone is this kick-butt chick with tatts and a bad (awesome) attitude. She doesn’t care about the money, only getting out of here.

You know how it goes, bad guy wants in, bad girl won’t let him, bad guy falls for bad girl. Then the betrayal. SO many FEELS! Fire, steam, chemistry, just all the things! Throughout the whole book you get a feel for how far the Society can reach, and their arms are LONG! This series is just gearing up to be one of those that you will re-read and keep finding new tells throughout the whole thing! Finn and Stones story might be over for now, but what will happen next?!
