Book Review:The Kiss Thief

The Kiss Thief-LJ Shen

They say your first kiss should be earned.

Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.

They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.

Mine were broken before we left church.

They say your heart only beats for one man.

Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.

I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.

Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.

I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.

One kiss.
Two men. Three lives.
Entwined together.

And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.

WOW! I LOVED this book. The Kiss Thief by L.J. Shen will for sure give you a run through your emotions. If you like the mob, arranged marriages, and main ladies who don’t back down from a challenge, you will love this book! This review has SPOILERS. I love how L.J. Shen writes. This book is dark and may have some triggers for some readers so please beware. Do you ever get that feeling in your chest? That one that makes it get all tight and moves to your throat, then to your eyes? You don’t want to cry but those fuckers just leak right out? Yeah, that’s going to happen.

First, we have Francesca Rossi who just wants to be loved. Doesn’t everyone? Princess to the mob and chained to her planned out future. She has a box. And in this box are notes. What do the notes say!?! I love the mystery of it all.

“That”….hand fluttering over my chest where the note rested–“is the beginning of the rest of my life.”

But in this story, love is not in the cards. Mr. Tall-Sexy and Steamy, Wolfe Keaton, comes in and takes the fantasy away from our main lady. Stealing her first kiss and sweeping her away from her mob family and father, she just can’t win when her world is filled with a heartache and ruthless leaders.. This kiss was supposed to be hers to give, but it was stolen under the mask of a lie.

Then we have the senator, Wolfe Keaton, who steals our princess away, you will probably have confused feelings. Nemesis, Francesca, is just a plot to steal from the mob, or is it? This is why I love L.J. Shen. The way she writes and keeps us just wanting more. You won’t put this book down until it is finished!

There is so much back and forth between these two. One step forward and two steps backward. Neither of them wants to give in to the other and thus, the drama and steamy scenes unfold.

“He grabbed me by the back of my thighs and wrapped my legs around his waist, kissing me as he made his way to the stairs…”

Yup, community, this book is deferentially a fast-burn. The steamy scenes are teasing. So much touching! And then they both realize what they are doing and back away almost like they have been scolded from a hot iron. You want to keep reading to see if they can finally move past all of their insecurities and finally when you think its going to happen… doesn’t! It’s the suspense that makes you want to keep reading.

One of the most heart renching moments is when Francesca won’t back down from her truths. She knows that she is a virgin but won’t let Wolfe break her pride. It is one of those moments where you know everything will change after. You can almost hear Francesca’s heart breaking when she tell’s Wolfe that he used a condom, even though she is still a virgin. You want to cry with her at this moment.

“But I didn’t tell him to stop, and I didn’t confess my virginity.”

After this moment, everything changes. You can see the love building but wonder at the same time if hate is consuming. But Love and Hate are a fine line, and some might say they are the made of the same thing. Drama, drama, drama! The drama just keeps building and shatters little Nemesis to pieces after her first kiss is stolen along with her heart. I literally cried so much during this book. I’m a crier, I really am. Some of you might not actaully cry, but the feels are there and your heart can’t take much more bad news. You need to feel the magic! And you do, you get to feel the magic.

Like I said, I loved this book. The beginning, the middle, and the end, it has all the drama that you are looking for while watching a love story bloom. Francesca does get her happy ending, and her fantasy of love is finally written. YAY!

Sizzle factor: 5 out of 5!
